TITANS 2ND IN STATE
With over 50 schools competing, the Titan Boys finished 2nd and Girls 4th at the UHSTCA Indoor State Championships. We also finished 2nd in the combined race. Not a bad TEAM performance and something we can build upon as we approach the outdoor season.
Mayra Franco had a great meet as she finished 4th in the 60m dash (8.01) and 7th in the 200m dash (26.86), both indoor school records. She also ran a leg on the 3rd place 4x200m relay and long jumped 15'04, the #2 Titan indoor mark. Ali Morris tripled jumped 30'04 to place 4th and set a school record in the process. She also ran a great leg on the 4x200 relay. An injury prevented her from placing high in the 60m hurdles- she had the 4th fastest time in the trials. Lindsey McFarland ran 59.57 to place 3rd in the 400m dash. She also ran great legs on the 4x200m relay as well as the 4th place 4x400m relay. Her 27.29 in the 200 was the #3 all-time Titan mark. Kenzie Long joined Lindsey, Ali and Mayra on the 4x200 relay. Lindsey was joined by Lauren Garrett, Jordan Anderson and Daylyn Johnston for the 4x400 relay 4th place finish.
For the boys, Hunter Naisbitt remained undefeated in 2011 as he won the shot put at 51'06. Zach Watson cleared 12'06 to set a school record in the pole vault and finish 3rd. Jake Zaugg’s 11'06 was the #2 indoor mark ever and good enough to place 6th. Chris Brown was 4th in the 400m dash running 51.89, the #3 Titan all-time mark. Preston Williams ran 2:00.11 to place 4th in the 800m run. That is the #2 all-time mark. Jaxon Hansen was close behind in 8th running 2:03.47, the #4 mark. Jamison Nielson tripled jumped 37'11 to place 4th and move into the #3 spot on the all-time list. He also placed 6th in the high jump at 5'06. Austin Warner’s 8.58 in the 60m hurdles placed 2nd . That would be an indoor record for Syracuse- don’t know how it ranks at Clearfield. Cameron Dower, Shane Russell, Jamison and Chris ran 1:37.49 to place 3rd in the 4x200 relay. Mike Russell, Jaxon, Austin and Preston placed 2nd in the 4x400 in 3:33.20- a very exciting race to say the least. And Brandon Yardley, Jaxon, Mike, and Preston set a school record in the 4x800 in 8:25.13 to also finish 2nd.
It’s great to place so high in such a big meet. It shows that we have the potential to do some big things outdoors. But we need to continue to work hard and get more people committed and involved if we are to come close to some lofty goals.
