Indoor Update Jan 30

Titan Indoor Track Bulletin - Jan 30, 2011

UTAH DISTANCE CHALLENGE
This was a fun meet with most of the top distance runners in the state competing. With the quality of competition and the fast Olympic Oval track, the times were very good.
The Boys 1600m run was probably our best race. Jaxon Hansen (4:45.16), Mike Russell (4:45.98) and Brandon Yardley (4:46.30) improved on their #3, #4, #5 all-time Titan marks. Preston Williams placed 3rd in the 800m run with a time of 2:01.04, the #2 all-time mark. Jaxon attempted a tough double running 2:06.84. Landon Greenhalgh (56.98) and Cameron Dower (57.20) ran very well in the 400m dash.
Lindsey McFarland turned in the top performance for the Lady Titans. She ran 2:33.56, the #4 all-time mark. Cheyna Field (2:38.41), Mallory Ashby (2:51.12) and Katelyn Davidson (3:20.62) also had big PR’s. Mayra Franco (1:06.66), Shelby Cadwell (1:06.98), Lindsey Bailey (1:08.99), Jordan Anderson (1:12.64) and Lauren Garrett (1:13.66) had their fastest 400's of the year.
It was a fun meet and a great way to spend a Friday evening. Complete results can be found at:

UHSTCA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Make sure you pick up the meet info if you didn’t get it Friday. I need to know what events you want to compete in by Wednesday. We are the defending Champions in the Boys, and were 2nd in the Girls. Let’s be ready to bring home a couple more trophies.

ALUMNI UPDATE
Hannah Williams ran a fantastic race and won the mile at a big meet at Boise State. She ran 5:05.98 which converts to a 5:04.20 for the 1600m run. Jake Rossmango also had a great mile run at Arkansas Saturday. He ran 4:20.51 which converts to a 4:18.99 for a 1600. And he said he felt he could have run faster. Incredible mile times. Sasha Russell made her collegiate debut running 9.62 in the 60m hurdles. Great job by our ex-Titans.

Indoor Update Jan 23

Titan Indoor Track Bulletin - Jan 23, 2011

WSU MEET- ANOTHER STEP FORWARD
The WSU meet had about 3-4 times more participants that USU with most of the top athletes in Utah competing. The Titans more than held their own as they placed in several events and did some damage on the School Record and All-Time lists.
Hunter Naisbitt got things off to a good start Friday night winning the shot put with a school record toss of 53'06". Ali Morris captured 3rd in the long jump with a school record leap of 15'09". Zach Watson and Jake Zaugg cleared a school record height of 11'00 in the pole vault to tie for 5th.
Ali came back early Saturday morning to finish 2nd in the 55m hurdles. Her time of 9.23 is the #2 mark at Syracuse. Kenzie Long’s 10.76 is the #5 mark. Mayra Franco’s 7.59 in the 55m dash was good enough for 2nd and is a school record. Shelby Cadwell’s 8.28 made the all-time list at #5. Lindsey McFarland (27.92) and Mayra (27.96) finished high 3-4 in the 200m dash and are #2 and #3 on the all-time list. Lindsey also finished 2nd in the 400m dash in 1:01.17- a little slower than her school record. Mayra, Shelby, Ali and Lindsey ran 4:33.1 to place 4th in the 4x400m relay.
Austin Warner’s 8.16 in the 55m hurdles was good enough to place 4th. Shane Russell placed 8th in 8.56, the #2 Titan mark. Allen Miller’s 10.35 made the list at #5. Chris Brown’s 6.93 in the 55m dash is the #3 Titan mark and put him in 8th place in the meet. Preston Williams (2:02.59) and Jaxon Hansen (2:05.90) were good enough for 2nd and 4th in the 800m run. They are also the #2 and #4 all-time marks. Jaxon also ran 10:33.01 in the 3200m run, the #3 mark ever. Preston (10:46.32) and Mike Russell (10:52.83) took over the #4 and #5 all-time marks. Preston, Jaxon, Mike and Chris ran 3:42.6 to win the 4x400m relay. Shane, Austin, Allen and Jamison Nielson ran 3:50.7 to place 4th.
It was a good meet with some great efforts. It showed that we have come a long way and are very strong in some events, but we really need to find some people to try a new event or two so we can be strong in ALL events. Don’t be shy- try something different.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Chosen as the Athletes of the Week were Ali Morris and Hunter Naisbitt. Ali set a school record in the long jump, placed 2nd in the 55m hurdles, ran a strong 200 and also a good leg on the 4x400 relay. Hunter’s winning throw in the shot put was not only a school record, but also the top throw in Utah this year.

UTAH DISTANCE CHALLENGE
The meet will be Friday evening at the Olympic Oval. The only events contested will be the 400, 800, 1600 and 3200. It will be a great meet to try to set a PR in just one event. The cost is $5- we will pay for it. Events begin at 5:00 with the following order: 1600, 400, 800, 3200.

SIMPLOT GAMES
A reminder to get your Simplot permission slip turned in by Wednesday. The total cost should be about $120. If money is a problem, talk to me.

UHSTCA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
We are the defending Champions in the Boys, and were 2nd in the Girls. I realize there is a dance Saturday- make your day activity an exciting day at the Olympic Oval. The schedule is different this year- it will finish much earlier Saturday.

ALUMNI UPDATE
Hannah Williams had a great start to her collegiate career. She placed 6th in the mile at the big Cougar Invitational at Washington State. Her time was 5:15.92. Nice way to start the season. Haley Busby had her first collegiate meet at Montana State. She has made huge strides while in college. Jake Rossmango will make his debut next weekend at a big meet at the U. of Arkansas. Collegiate powerhouses like Oregon, Stanford, etc., will be there. Sasha Russell will be making her debut at ISU. Good luck to all of the ex-Titans.

Indoor Update Jan 16

Titan Indoor Track Bulletin - Jan 16, 2011

“Anything worth doing, is worth doing poorly.” (Coach Hislop)
“Anything worth doing, is worth doing poorly- as long as you are doing your best and striving to improve.” Coach Buhrley
The point, you ask? You probably aren’t going to be very good at something new the first few times. If what you are attempting is a worthwhile endeavor, it’s worth doing poorly until you improve the skills and fitness necessary to do it well. If you feel like you are struggling, DON’T GET DISCOURAGED!! “Enter the arena. Make the attempt. Pursue excellence.”

USU MEET- A GOOD START
There were some very good marks and some great efforts at our first indoor meet. How about Spencer Griffin and Brandon Yardley running the 4x400 relay right after finishing the 3200m run? And they had also run the 1600 earlier. Tom Hill and Mike Russell also ran the 4x400 after running the 1600 and 800. And Cheyna Field seemed to be running about every event. Great efforts. These early meets have to be looked at as your best workouts of the week.
Ali Morris had a great start by winning the 60m hurdles (9.99), finishing 4th in the long jump in a school record leap of 15'06.50", and running a good leg on the 2nd place 4x400 relay. Mayra Franco also started strong in winning the 60m dash in a school record time of 8.11, finishing 6th in the long jump (14'09) and running on the 2nd place 4x400. Lindsey McFarland also picked up a victory in the 400m dash (1:02.86) and running on the 2nd place 4x400. Sharlie Dimick also ran on the 2nd place 4x400 and picked up another 2nd place finish in the 1600m run (5:48.2). Others placing in Girls competition were: Andrea Thomas (5th high jump, 4'04); Jordan Anderson (6th high jump, 4'02); Kenzie Long (6th 60m hurdles, 11.76); Lindsey Bailey (5th 400m dash, 1:09.1); and Cheyna Field (3rd 800m run, 2:44.5).
Hunter Naisbitt picked up a couple victories in the weight throw (45'04) and shot put (53'00, a school record). Preston Williams won the 800m run in 2:03.8 and also ran a leg on the winning 4x400 (3:42.9). Austin Warner won the 60m hurdles (8.78) and was also 5th in the 60m dash (7.34). Mike Russell picked up a 3rd place finish in the 800 (2:12.3) and a 4th in the 1600 (4:51.5). Not bad for his first meet. Jaxon Hansen ran 4:50.0 to place 4th in the 1600 and also ran a leg on the winning 4x400 relay. Shane Russell was 6th in the 60m hurdles (9.10) and ran on the winning relay team. Zach Watson cleared 10'06 to place 3rd in the pole vault- he cleared 12'00 after the competition was over. Myles Petersen was 4th in the high jump at 5'04 and his 38'11 in the triple jump had to place high- the results were omitted. Chris Brown was 4th in the 60m dash (7.34) and also ran on the winning 4x400 relay. Brandon Yardley picked up a 3rd place finish in the 3200m run (10:12.3). And Jamison Nielson was 5th in the 60m hurdles in 8.96. There are many results missing- USU is trying to find them.
There were many more outstanding performances in terms of great efforts. Maybe the marks weren’t good enough to place, but effort and improvement are the things we are looking for now. I love the attitude that so many of you have to strive to do your best. Let’s keep it going!!

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Chosen as the Athletes of the Week were Cheyna Field and Mike Russell. Cheyna made the finals of the 60, ran a tough 400, then followed that up a few minutes later with a 3rd place finish in the 800. Mike ran outstanding 1600 and 800 races and finished the day with a 55.1 split in the 4x400m relay.

WSU INDOOR MEET
