Titan Track Bulletin - March 21, 2011
COPPER HILLS / HILLCREST TRI
The Titans won both the Boys and Girls tri-meets Wednesday under terrible conditions. It was raining and blowing throughout the entire meet. The meet showed that many Titans have the toughness to perform under any conditions, but also showed that many more need to prepare better for the weather, tough it out, and compete at the highest level possible.
The Girls score was Syracuse 61.5, Copper Hills 55 and Hillcrest 35.5. Ali Morris won the long jump with a leap of 16'02, a very good mark considering the weather. April Bassinger threw 82'07 to win the javelin. She is still a rookie in the event and will be a good one. Mayra Franco won the 100m dash in 12.40. The wind negated a school record. Rylee Garver’s 1:05.18 was good enough to win the 400m dash. Sharlie Dimick ran 5:54.9 to win the 1600m. And with the meet on the line, Daylyn Johnston, Erin Kibler and Katelyn Davidson ran through the rain and wind to finish 1-2-3 to secure the TEAM victory.
The Boys margin of victory was a little wider as the Titan scored 92 points to Copper Hill’s 58 and Hillcrest’s 20. Zach Watson took one jump to win the pole vault at 12'00. Jamison Nielsen won the high jump clearing 5'08, tied for 1st in the 300m hurdles and was 2nd in the 110m hurdles. Hunter Naisbitt won the shot put and discus- the marks were not what he is used to, but he adjusted to the terrible conditions to secure the wins. Bradley Sherman and Steven Carter had good days in the shot and discus. Chris Brown won the 400m dash (52.76) and was 2nd in the 100m dash (11.41). Preston Williams won the 800m run in 2:03.4. Jaxon Hansen won both the 1600m run (4:46.8) and 3200m run (10:29.7).

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Chosen as the Athletes of the Week were Taylee Hamblin and Jaxon Hansen. After about six months on the stationary bike and elliptical trainer, Taylee was finally able to run a race. And she did a great job in placing 4th in the 1600m run. Jaxon continues to improve each week and his two victories in the 1600 and 3200 were big for the Titans.
