Titan Track Bulletin - May 8, 2011
TEAM
After two very long, hot days, the final event of the BYU Invitational was the Boys 4x400m relay. Four very tired and drained Titans got ready to toe the line. Three minutes, 20.12 seconds after the gun sounded, Chris Brown carried the baton across the line in 1st place. The time has only been bettered by 10 schools in Utah history. Chris, Cory Serfoss, Jaxon Hansen and Preston Williams averaged 50.03 splits in securing the win. How did the four average 1.5 seconds faster than they had previously run 400's? Because they were running as a TEAM and for at TEAM. That is exactly the type of effort we need to have from every Titan Wednesday and Thursday at Region.
VIEWMONT/WEBER TRI MEET
Due to time constraints in putting together the Region Championships, no update on the meet. The results can be found at: www.titantrack2011.blogspot.com.
BYU INVITATIONAL
With over 70 schools competing in the 3A-5A division at BYU, the Titan Boys finished tied for 4th and the Boys and Girls finished 5th in the combined overall scoring. The results were pretty impressive considering we kept out many athletes due to injuries.
Mayra Franco had a great two days placing 3rd in the 100m dash and 6th in the 200m dash. Her 25.71 in the trials of the 200 shattered her own school record. Impressive PR’s were turned in by Abby Call in the shot put (33'04), Sharlie Dimick in the 3200m run (11:57), April Basinger in the discus (94'06), Takenna Hamblin in the 800 (2:29.7), Kenzie Long in the 100m hurdles (17.63). Sarah Sperry tied her best mark in the high jump clearing 5'00 and Lindsey McFarland had her fastest 400m dash of the year running 59.20.
For the Boys, Jamison Nielson ran 15.60 to make the finals of the 110m hurdles and qualify for state. Preston Williams had a huge 6-second PR of 4:24.91 in the 1600m run to also qualify for state. Jaxon Hansen had a 3-second PR running 1:57.09 in the 800m run to also hit a state qualifying mark. He finished 5th in the event. Mike Russell PR’ed big in the 800 running 2:04.76. Zach Watson broke his school record in the pole vault clearing 14'00 in finishing 4th. Hunter Naisbitt suffered his first defeat of the year in Utah as he finished 2nd in the shot put with a toss of 55'07. He came back big the second day to win the discus by 20-feet throwing 176'04 . He was selected as the Field Athlete of the Meet. In the highlight (and final) event of the meet, our 4x400m relay TEAM of Jaxon, Preston, Cory Serfoss and Chris Brown set a school record of 3:20.12 in winning the event. Only 10 schools have ever run faster in Utah history.
